“I have nature and art and poetry, and if that is not enough, what is enough?” ~ Vincent van Gogh
We will be painting ‘En Plein Air” along the pristine coastal landscape of Northern New South Wales. The workshop will be two days of creative immersion using the beautiful, wild Angel beach for inspiration. Crafting our tools from the environment, we will be drawing with driftwood dipped in ink, charcoal from the beach fires and painting with water colour directly from the landscape.
En Plein air is a French expression that means “in the open air.” It is used by artists to describe the art of outdoor painting, capturing landscapes and views in natural light. … Students will work from direct observation with a spontaneous, abstracted response to their surroundings. Dominique will begin by taking you through the process of critical observation using colour, tone, layering, and paint manipulation. We will talk about the feel of the work, the energy, issues, and location. Dominique infuses her teaching with an undefinable reservoir of knowledge in history, art theory, philosophy, and culture.
Delicious provincial lunches catered for us by Sacha Meier from One Green Acre drawing on fresh local produce, reminiscent of our trips to France.
We will finish the day with a glass of local organic wine while contemplating the work with your fellow artists.
