Fully booked: December 13, 2018 @ 10:00 am – December 14, 2018 @ 3:00 pm
River Hawk Ranch will host this two day workshops with internationally renown artist Dominique Sutton in the beautiful surrounds of Byron Bay. We will be painting en plain air using the Brunswick river as our inspiration, sourcing ideas from the environment around us and exploring this incredible, sacred place.
In this workshop you will be introduced to the basics of oil painting en plein air. Students will learn how to handle the medium confidently and to gain a better understanding of techniques and possibilities. We will work from direct observation with a spontaneous, abstracted response to the landscape.
Dominique will help students to translate and articulate complex ideas and approaches by taking you through the process of critical observation using colour, tone, layering and paint manipulation. We will talk about the feel of the work, the energy, issues and location.
Dominique infuses her teaching with an undefinable reservoir of knowledge in history, art theory, philosophy and culture.
Conversing with your peers and cultivating meaningful connections, is central to becoming an interesting artist. River Hawk Ranch is the perfect place for a weekend of creative immersion with one of Australia’s best art-practitioners.
Enjoy a delicious lunch and then finish the day with a glass of wine contemplating your work with fellow artists.
Location: River Hawk Ranch, Byron Bay.
