Painting for Beginners
In this introductory course we will look at the fundamentals of painting. Students will learn about materials, tone, composition and colour in fun, easy exercises that will give you a good understanding of the basics skill of painting. No experience is necessary.Find out more »
This class is designed for intermediate to advanced students and will focus on the various genres of painting from still life to portraiture and landscape through the study of techniques, mediums and paint manipulation.
It will encourage individuality and personally support each artists' strengths. It will also offer a mentoring
environment for students exploring their own particular artistic objectives or developing a body of work.
First used by ancient Egyptians - encaustic painting has been around for centuries. Also known as hot wax painting, it involves using heated beeswax to which coloured pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface—usually prepared wood, though canvas and paper are often used. The word encaustic comes from the Greek Enkaustikos which means “to burn” .
Join me on this two day introduction to painting with encaustic. You will learn how to combine the wax and resin to create your own mix then apply to the board, canvas or paper. We will scratch and mark make with brushes and tools, then use oil paint and pigment to build layers and stories. Suitable for all levels of experience this is a great way to explore a new medium.Find out more »

After the long months of staying home Atelier is excited to announce its first workshop of 2020. We will be painting ‘En Plein Air” along the pristine coastal landscape of Northern New South Wales. The workshop will be two days of creative immersion using the beautiful, wild Angel beach for inspiration. We will spend the days exploring the perfumed gardens, listening to the sounds of musicians, visit contemporary African art galleries and paint in the Jardin Majorelle - all the while recording our memories with daily en plain air painting sessions.
